The most important lesson is that you have to constantly be an example to your members of staff if you want the best out of them. If the government decides to get properly involved, the growth can spike but if they are not, then it is going to grow with the market forces of supply and demand.Īs the Founder and Creative Director of Anthill Productions, what are some of the lessons that you have learnt while dealing with your workers? I think it is growing at the pace it should because it is driven by the private market and market forces are driven by demand and supply. We prepare for our films and the bad experiences most times are what we cannot control.ĭo you think the movie industry is growing at the pace it should grow compared to Hollywood and Bollywood? For example, if you film in remote areas and equipment develops faults, you have to wait till someone comes to fix them before you continue filming. ![]() ![]() It would probably be filming in places where there is no access to necessary amenities like electricity, mosquito nets, and the likes. What’s your most unpleasant set experience? This helps us to prepare ahead so that we can know what to expect. The police do not necessarily do the work they are supposed to do, but it is part of the process and what we do is to go early to areas we are supposed to film and have discussions with the people there. We also live in a society that is not properly guided by the rules of law and order. However, it is a normal thing because we live in a very poor society and we cannot pretend that those things do not happen. I have not experienced any that has damaged my production. Some directors have complained of harassment from touts or area boys at movie sets especially in Lagos State, have you experienced that and what do you think can be done to curb this? How would you rate the movie industry in recent times? These are what I like to carry as something to be proud of. We regularly have internship programmes and a chunk of the people in post-production in the industry and some young directors are people who have worked with me. Every year since 2017, I have trained close to 50 women on post-production and film editing. I have been involved in the career growth of many persons. Also, I can be instrumental in helping many young people find their feet in film-making. My biggest achievement so far is that I have become a voice in the industry. ![]() Having spent about a decade in the industry, what would you say is your biggest achievement? If you are very tough on yourself and quality is your watchword, then you would know that every piece of art you do is never finished. Every film I make, I usually feel that it could have been better. Have you ever produced a movie you felt did not meet your standard? This shows that when you have a good story, people would be glad to watch. We were genuinely surprised to see the success of the movie. This made some persons to doubt if the movie would do well in the cinemas. It is the first time we released a film around that time of the year. I produced it early this year and it was the first time anyone would do a cinema film that was mostly in the Yoruba language. My movie titled “Prophetess” was the movie that exceeded my expectations.
